I know, it’s a weird page to have on this site, but if you know me, you know I love cupcakes. Love might not even be a strong enough word…
Here’s a post I wrote about how I may just love them a bit too much.
So, I decided it was time to share my cupcake love with you.
The best cupcake places in Houston
(and maybe in your town)
Smallcakes – located on 1960 between Eldridge and Fallbrook
Why you should go: Smallcakes was founded in Kansas by Jeff and Brandy Martin and has been on The View, Cupcake Wars, was voted Best Cupcakes by Great Day Houston, and USA Today rated Smallcakes as one of the Top Places to Try a Gourmet Cupcake. Nadia and Sam Saqr own the Houston location, and it’s very family-friendly with a reading nook, play area, TV screen, and more. My favorite part about their shop is Toddler Tuesdays, where they give a free mini cupcake to toddlers when mommy or daddy buy a regular one. It’s where you’ll find my toddlers and me pretty much every Tuesday. And, the cupcakes? Not too sweet, perfectly moist, not too crazy on the flavor combos, and just the right amount of frosting.
Best flavors: If you ask me, you can’t beat their Peanut Butter Cup, Cookies-n-Cream, or Chocolate Cream. My hubby likes their Stuffed French Toast and Margarita cupcakes.
Gigi’s – located in the HEB shopping center at Barker Cypress and 290 (facing Barker Cypress)
Why you should go: Gigi’s was founded by Gigi in Nashville out of love for baking and good cupcakes. There are several locations and you may even see Pink Sadie, the Cypress Gigi’s cupcake truck, roaming the streets. The best part about this shop is their loyalty program. For every dollar you spend, you get a point. 50 points equals $5 in free cupcakes. If you eat cupcakes like I do, you’ll get a lot of free cupcakes. The cupcakes are not as moist as I like, their frosting is very sweet but very good and they don’t shy away from giving you a ton, and they have some awesome flavor combos. These were my favorite before I discovered Smallcakes, and I still frequent their shop for flavors I can’t find at my new favorite place.
Best flavors: I absolutely love their Scarlett’s Red Velvet, White Midnight Magic, Chocolate Salted Caramel, and Wedding Cake. My hubby swears they have the best Banana Cream Pie and Orange Dreamsicle, and on days when they have the Mimosa, I always have to stop.
I’ve also tried Sprinkles and Crave, both located near the Galleria and Rice Village areas. They are just okay in my book, and I sometimes stop when I’m in the area, but you’ll find me at Smallcakes or Gigi’s first. Another shop I need to try? Treat! in the Vintage. I’ve heard mixed reviews, but I won’t post my opinions until I’ve tried it myself. Guess I need to make a cupcake run!
Am I missing your favorite cupcake place? By all means, share with us so we can enjoy your favorite place too! Just go to this post and leave a comment and I’ll be sure to add it here!
